Nach der traditionellen interpretation , es zeigt den griechischen mythos des titan cronus ( im titel romanisiert zu saturn ) , who , angst, dass er von einem seiner kinder gestürzt würde , aßen jeden bei ihrer geburt . Die arbeit ist eine der 14 schwarze gemälde, die goya irgendwann dazwischen direkt auf die wände seines hauses gemalt hat 1819 und 1823 . Es wurde nach auf leinwand übertragen Goya's tod und wurde seitdem im museo del prado in madrid festgehalten .
